Space them 1.5m apart with a gap of 1.5m between the rows. Gooseberries grow well in large containers of soil-based compost. Mulch the surface to keep weeds at bay. WebHow you prune will depend on whether you want to keep your redcurrant as a bush or a cordon. Bushes produce more fruit than cordons but cordons are easier to harvest and take up less space so are ideal for a smaller garden, and can even be grown in a container.
