I had 1mm under my 20gs and they're just fine, tho I'll be upgrading everything to a 4mm now. Worry about getting thicker mats if your stand is really unlevel or if it is warped. Gotcha! WebNov 24, 2024 · Actually those mats are for rimless tanks to help distribute the weight evenly. With a rimmed tank, you don't need it. If I were you, I would just get a stand, or make one that would fit your tank properly. If your tank is not level, you will eventually cause stress to the seems, and may spring a leak, or worse.
